Tilson, Christopher (1771 - 15 July 1834)

Changed name to Chowne 1812.

2nd Lieutenant 23rd Foot 1788,  Lieutenant 23rd Foot 1790, Captain Independent Company 1793, Major 99th Foot* 1794, Lieutenant Colonel 99th Foot* 1794, Half-pay 1797-1799, Lieutenant Colonel 44th Foot 1799, Brevet Colonel 1801, Brigadier General on the Staff 1805-1808, Major General 1808, Lieutenant General Peninsula 1811, Lieutenant General 1813,  General 1830. * disbanded 1797.

Early service: Sicily 1805.

Portugal & Spain: Commanded a brigade Portugal 1808 - 1809.

Peninsular War: Commanded brigade April - May 1809. Resigned appointment May 1809. Re-appointed brigade 2nd Division  June 1809 - December 1809. Resigned appointment July 1810. Officiated in command of  2nd Division April-November/December(?) 1812. Left Peninsula by end of 1812.

Other service: on Home Staff 1810-1812.

Colonel of 76th Regiment 1814-1834.
