Monsieur le Maréchal,

L’Empereur me charge de vous prévenir que l’ennemi a réuni un corps de troupes entre Sombreffe et Brye, et qu’à 2 Heures et demie, M. le Maréchal Grouchy, avec les 3° et 4° corps, l’attaquera ; l’intention de Sa Majesté est que vous attaquiez aussi ce qui est devant vous, et qu’après l’avoir vigoureusement poussé, vous vous rabattiez sur nous pour concourir à envelopper le corps dont je viens de vous parler. Si ce corps était enfoncé auparavant, alors S. M. ferait manœuvrer dans votre direction pour hâter également vos opérations. Instruisez de suite l’Empereur de vos dispositions et de ce qui se passe sur votre front.

In front of Fleurus 16 June about 1400 Hours

Sir Marshal,

The Emperor charges me to let you know that the enemy has united a corps of troops between Sombreffe and Brye, and that at 14.30 hrs, Mr. Marshal Grouchy will attack it with the 3^rd and the 4^th Corps;  it is the intention of His Majesty that you will also attack what is in front of you, and that you, after having repulsed it vigorously, fall back on us in order to surround the corps I just mentioned to you. If this corps is pushed before, His Majesty will move in your direction in order to hasten your operations. Instruct at once the Emperor of your arrangements and of what is happening on your front.
